Because our firebox is cracked and won't do another season we're ending winter with some driftwood. Who cares about a bit of salt in your chimney when your chimney is already a goner?
I was drying some pieces on the firebox last week when they started to smoulder. Oops. Twas a cold and rainy night and Mish chucked the biggest piece out the door in a mild panic and smaller pieces went into the fire. Then we gaily watched Moulin Rouge, had a cup of tea, etc.
Heading off to bed, I checked the front door and Mish was lowering a blind and at the same moment we looked out and saw flames. The deck was on fire.
So, here's the hole it made, with Mish in the process of neatening edges and fixing. And a pro fix it is too. Gave her a chance to use her new power saw, not the one in the pic.
