Winter garden work

Pottering around the yard in these cooler days. Still nice to be outside, mostly.

Bought several sacks of nibs (cacao husks) at a local nursery. They come from our national chocolate maker, Whittakers, whose factory is very close to here. Warm car smelt awesome! Chocolately. Thought I might leave the sacks in the car, but we dragged them out and today I've spread them around the blackcurrant and redcurrant bushes. Had to fix the irrigation hose and dig out a house full of carpet first. The carpet was put down as mulch years ago but having a negative effect on soil life and water absorption.

The currant bushes with nibs. Not sure what we have, we'll find out when the fruit arrives. Redcurrant, blackcurrant? That's a bare apple tree up front in the bed.

Bulbs are popping up; citrus still going strong. Feijoa trees finally finished - what a crop we got.

Here's a couple of  shots of our southern view.

From the bottom of the front yard. That's Mt Wainui and one of our lemon trees. The neighbour has a wattle, flowering nicely. They're a weed here of course, but we like them.

And Mt Wainui from our washhouse window, with paddocks and radiata plantations.
