Winter solstice

The shortest day was a couple of days ago, June 22. Nice to watch the sun  tracking back across the western hills.

We had planned to go to an ice hockey game this weekend, USA vs Canada. But, one of the ice making pipes broke yesterday (a beautiful sunny winter day), so it was postponed until the evening, and again just as we got to the ticket gate. So we had a nice walk along the waterfront instead and then trained back home.

Mish at the station, in  'I'm so hungry, have to eat NOW' mode.

Then today (a damp, colder, blowy day) we set off again for the rescheduled game at 12.

Got into our seats this time and then the wind blew over the rather flimsy wind protectors around the ice rink, and it was all off. Bummer. We do have an indoor arena, why the hell they didn't put the game there, who knows.

Anyways, will go to Canada sometime and see an ice hockey game.

So we went to Lower Hutt and drove a couple of Subaru Foresters (trading in the van for something a bit more 21st century). Still thinking about that.

The rain has eased - it's been raining for weeks. We have had a few days of no rain - amazing. Not consecutive though, oh no. Ground is sodden.
