Had a great Maori experience at work today. The Minister for Maori Affairs came to unveil a carving, and he got the full formal treatment. The grass skirted warrior brandishing the spear as the Minister walked in, the female call of welcome, and the speeches of welcome in Maori.
The waiata group sang and we did a great haka - a chant as the Minister walked in that replicated pulling the mighty waka (canoe) up onto the beach to its resting place. We were good!
Then the waiata group hongied the Minister and we all went for morning tea. Kia ora!
