Hot pools and snow covered mountains.
It rained all the way up (370km) so we didn't get a view of the three mountains in the middle of the North Island. Didn't get one on the way back either. Oh well.
We did get hot pool bathing and thermal walking and a great deal at the Wairakei Resort. The Wairakei Terraces were a lovely walk and we had the place to ourselves. This geyser goes off continually.
The terraces: a waterfall of boiling water. It's loaded with silica and we had a soak after our walk in the hot pool complex beside the terraces. Aaah. So soft.
Lots of modern carving. Some recreated buildings (storehouses, etc), and a waka (canoe) by the lake.
Did a bit of shopping in Taupo and on the way home and had a lovely few days away, playing tourist.
