Our pohutukawa

Now a small tree at the bottom of the yard, and we can see the flowering top from the kitchen. Just as the designer planned.

Mish  planted it on a foul cold day, in sleet that was almost snow, and I photographed it yesterday on a beautiful summer day, bees a buzzing around it.

We planted a plum tree and a columnar apple down there too, and the best they've done is  give us a bit of green. Sorry trees, you really struggle on this windy hill. We put them in about 2012 and we've had a couple of plums and one apple. Blossoms get blown off. But they're green. The plum tree has one plum at the moment, which has hung on through 120kph winds in December.

Finally had success with a lemon tree, and we have lemons! Will be using them in gin and tonics on the deck as we enjoy our last summer at the light house.
