Was watching a cruise ship in a spot of bother yesterday. Leaving Wellington, it was stopped where they don't stop, with some white water behind and an acre of churned up brown sea around the stern. Went outside to get Mish - she had her back to the drama, measuring something - and we watched it very slowly move forward, then off she went out into the ocean. Bet that captain was nervous: it wouldn't be the first ship to keel over in the harbour (Wahine, 1968, nasty) and it's sure a topical conversation at the moment.
Today, it's Wellington anniversary day, a long weekend, and Moth class yachts, about 50 of the little tykes, are absolutely roaring around a course in a brisk, cool southerly.
