Christmas Eve!

Better news out of Christchurch today. Shops are nearly all open and people are cheerful.

Joy to the world.

It's a picture perfect day in Wellington. The sky is blue, the air is warm, the harbour's glistening. Got the solid gold radio station going at volume: Elvis, Springsteen, The Kinks, Supremes, Neil Diamond - all Mischa's favourites, except The Shadows of course, her all time fave. But they rarely get an outing on the radio. Now where did I put that CD...

Am baking to solid gold hits, and it is the first and last time I'm making Christmas fruit mince pies. The mince part was fun, I've been sogging that in brandy for a few weeks. The pastry part is dismal; I think I bought the wrong kind, flaky puff instead of just flaky, and it's sure spread out. Am such an expert with pastry baking that I know all the different sorts. I'm going back to the cheat's way tonight: fruit mince in bread and put them in the sandwich maker so you get little triangle pies, dusted lightly with icing sugar and scoffed on Christmas Eve.

Had better luck with the gingerbread guys.

It will be picture perfect tomorrow too, over all of NZ; fabulous. We're off to the park with petanque set, bat and balls, frisbees, supersoaker (cause there's a creek), and Christmas picnic.

A Merry Christmas to all, and thanks for reading this year!
