'Twas a dark and moonless night

That is Newlands tonight. No lights in half the house thanks to kitchen demolition, so have got the honeycomb candlebra blazing nicely, plus a sputtering stubby candle that's on its last legs. That's all the candles I could find. And a head torch. It's quiet, calm and densely foggy up here on the hill. Nice and warm, so all the blinds are up, although there's nothing to see except night fog.

Am sitting in the living room with unusual companions: a box of speakers, an unpacked toilet, a fridge that is humming along, a microwave that isn't, and a hole in the wall. Typing by candle and laptop screen light. As you do. It's very very quiet. Earthquake weather. No Mish. No Lola. No tv. Going to bed to read my photography magazine with the headtorch.

Buona notte.
