Happy Feet leaves town

Watching the tv news last night, we were shown live footage of the world's most famous emperor penguin leaving Wellington, bound for Antarctica. We jumped up and swung our telescope onto the harbour and watched the little brightly lit NIWA ship cruise past. Good luck to him, that mad penguin who swum a loooong way from home, ate too much sand on a NZ beach, and then had to recover slowly in salmon-fed style in Wellington Zoo for the last couple of months.

The zoo's medical lab has a viewing window for the public. Happy Feet was a big hit as his stomach got pumped! He had a full send off on Sunday and in four days they'll let him go near Campbell Island.

Bon voyage you crazy bird.
